Catchy soundbites and headlines

Was the downfall in the US economy due in part to catchy soundbites and headlines? Catchy soundbites and headlines too often fails to account for perspective, such as the longer-term view of things that we assumed.

Political rhetoric is just that - catchy soundbites. You are now witnessing the value of catchy soundbites in politics. Financial, health care reforms, etc. are all catchy soundbites and designed to get votes. Catchy soundbites have nothing in common with the long-term view, so be alert for all who say they represent the wishes of the people. What are the true motives of those who represent you?

You want immigration reform look to the state of Arizona for help! You want education reform in the US then shut the schools down and start over. You want health care reform then shut Medicaid down and start over. You want prison reform then bring back public hanging in the town square for those who chose to harm others. Cruel - Yes; however, probably would not take long for the message to sink in and 'ole sparky' is not doing the job. Be prepared the list is quite large for 'DO OVERS'.

Using The Power Of The Press To Mislead

It should be a crime for those associated with small town newspapers to use their bully pulpits to advance their social and political agendas.

It appears the husband of the publisher of our local paper, which most of us rely on for community news, has stepped to a new low in journalism standards. His column of wishy-washy opinions offers little for those who get their news by TV, radio, or the Internet. His attempt to discourage readers from getting some of their information from blogs, influence local elections, and to link changing school board members to the unpopular changes being made at the national level indicates an effort to control and bias the readership. His attack on the contributors to blogs who want to remain anonymous is an attack on free speech. He knows that most people in small communities avoid controversy and attracting attention to themselves. He must have noticed the intolerance of many locals and their resistance to change. He fails to point out that blogs are self-correcting. Rumors are verified or else they are discarded.

In the past, the local newspaper appears to have attempted to influence the outcome of some elections by controlling the agendas, rules, and limiting questions and answers in print and in” open meetings”.

What is needed in Camp County is a source of reliable news that is not tied to a way of life that no longer exists. What is needed is a more representative group of citizens than those who now control communications and local elections.

The identity of TAXES R US is, as has been reported on this blog several times, Dr. Bob Roe.
