One the best on the ballot is Proposition 2, which will require that homes be appraised – shockingly – as homes.
Right now, the property’s value can be appraised as if it were something else, specifically something that will bring more money into local government coffers.

Remember: appraisal districts generally don’t work for the taxpayers. They are appointed by, and answerable to, the local taxing entities. They are judge, jury and fiscal executioner.
Proposition 2 doesn’t fix all the problems with our property tax system, but it does close one glaring loophole and provide taxpayers with some protection.
