Bill of Rights

Ever wonder why we have a Bill of Rights?

"The Bill of Rights should serve as a constant reminder of the deep distrust that our founders had of government." Our founding fathers did not trust government!

The first amendment prohibits Congress (government) from enacting laws that abridges freedom of speech and the press. If the Bill of Rights had not been added then Congress would have abridged free speech and free press. The Bill of Rights prohibits to some extent their ability. This same distrust accounts for the amendments for your rights to own property, have a fair trial, and to bear arms.

Our founding fathers felt that some government was necessary, but really had no clue as to how much government was required. Our founding fathers saw government as the enemy of the people and they sought to limit government and provide protection to individuals with the adoption of the Bill of Rights. They wanted no loss of liberties.
