One the best on the ballot is Proposition 2, which will require that homes be appraised – shockingly – as homes.
Right now, the property’s value can be appraised as if it were something else, specifically something that will bring more money into local government coffers.
(Watch this week’s video!)
Remember: appraisal districts generally don’t work for the taxpayers. They are appointed by, and answerable to, the local taxing entities. They are judge, jury and fiscal executioner.
Proposition 2 doesn’t fix all the problems with our property tax system, but it does close one glaring loophole and provide taxpayers with some protection.

Garrett v. Roe
Anyone been keeping up with this match in the local Gazette. Interesting stuff and a great exercise in freedom of expression. The first time I read Mr. Garrett's Letter To the Editor I was a bit confused. I felt like he wanted folks living today to take responsibility for the transgressions against folks he nor I even knew from the past. Accountability - you can't hold anyone alive today accountable for issues of the past. For someone to be accountable for their actions they have to have had an opportunity to participate in the particular activity. Living in the past is for folks who like failure, and is the losers way to think. Positive thinking prevails! Always has and always will. Living in the past blinds one trying to find his way in the future. Dr. Martin Luther King never lived in the past and he was a progressive forward thinking fellow (read his works and don't rely on folk tales).
Mr. Baker wrote a wonderful piece in response to Mr. Garrett. Mr. Baker held Mr. Garrett accountable! Dang, there is that word again. It appears that Mr. Garrett plagiarized someones work in order to make a point about Democrats and Republicans. Mr. Baker did not take kindly to such action and rightfully held Mr. Garrett accountable (that word again). If Mr. Garrett spent time studying past political history he would know that it was the Republican Party that made it possible for the African-American population to become part of the America today. Texas use to hold 'White Primary' elections and only whites were allowed to vote in these elections (young folks of today would not know this type of information). Blacks could vote in general elections, but they were not given an opportunity to have a say in which candidates would appear on the November general election ballots. 'White Primary' elections were a product created by the Texas Democratic Party. Parties (not the government) were and still are to some extent responsible for the primary elections in this state. It was the Republican Party that debated and pressed for an end to the issue of slavery at the national level. Historical research might do this young fellow some good.
Perhaps Mr. Garrett needs to look beyond the issue of the US being Democrat and Republican, and just be dog gone happy to be an American. Being an American affords Mr. Garrett the freedom to express his opinion and this must be a good thing. If Mr. Garrett does not like America the door to leave is open (as an American you have the freedom to choose). This loser mentality is not the attitude that needs to be conveyed to the young of any race in this country. There are a number from any race who will gladly open the door for your exit should you exercise your freedom as an American to do so.
One other note, Mr. Garrett probably needs to take a look at the census numbers of late and get the news flash that the black and white populations are shrinking in this country. One additional note for Mr. Garrett - OUR President under his Cap and Trade legislation may put a tax on all that methane gas you produce and spout into the air you and I breath. Is this not a great country!

Effort garners prize
What happened to being judged based upon results? It appears our Nobel Peace prize friends have made an exception and awarded Pres. Obama the Nobel prize for peace based upon effort. At least Jimmy Carter had an end result for his efforts!
Pres. Obama is going to need that Nobel prize when his Cap and Trade legislation (H.R. 2454) is passed and becomes ingrained in our daily lives here the US. Farmers will need to purchase CO2 credits for the methane gas their cows pass into the air. Families will be upset, for we will have to return to the days of burning candles for light. Coal fired power plants will be moth balled by electricity producers due to this legislation. More workers will be sent home for lack of jobs. Wonder if the AFL-CIO is for this legislation?
Back to the farmers. This legislation includes anyone farming, i.e. wheat, rice, watermelons, soybeans, etc. (http://www.afpc.tamu.edu/pubs/2/526/rr%2009-2%20paper%20-%20for%20web.pdf) Yep, the folks at TAMU have already produced a paper on this Cap and Trade issue as it relates to farmers. Look for the necessities of life to increase in price, i.e. food, milk, etc.
The Cap and Traders still argue that it will only affect those companies that continue to use coal in the production of electricity. Perhaps they should read the entire bill and while they are at it they need to re-read the health care bill as well. Bottom line to the consumers in America - higher light bills, higher grocery bills, higher fuel bills, and higher taxes to pay for the folks that are required to oversee this new legislation.
Nobel Peace Prize? Guess effort is better than results any day of the week! Wonder if effort will pay the bills?

Fact or fiction - Greenspan and local Twi-lite Super
"you need to consider the fact that most pension/retirement plans/401's/etc., are connected to Wall Street. If you believe that Wall Street is evil, I'd recommend that you ditch your retirement plan - you can't wish for a retirement financial future on one hand & bash Wall Street with the other hand..."
"facts one might agree with:
Al Gore invented the internet!
Clinton didn't have sex with that woman!
It's unpatriotic for republicans to protest!
It's all Bush's fault!
Al Gore also invented Global Warming!
...Clinton din't inhale, and Barney Frank ran a gay bordelo
Greenspan said the U.S. will have to tighten credit and raise taxes in the near future after the economic meltdown.
"We are still by any measure in a disinflationary environment," Greenspan said."
Ole bubble head himself is back on the talk circuit working to aid the Obama economic team; howver, bubble head is a fraud. He invented disinflation!
He (Greenspan) PURPOSELY created "controlled" inflation to support the government programs and prop up markets. Unfortunately, the only part of inflation controlled was how the government reported it. Actual inflation is never reported because they leave out key segments of the market such as food and energy. Additionally, he also was at the helm when the FED decided to no longer report how much money they were pumping into the economy to keep the public from seeing how their currency was purposely being devalued.
Your local Twi-lite Super and her admin staff have purposely created some controlled items as well at the local PISD. Do your homework and remove the covers to see the real numbers! The insiders know the truth, but fear the wrath of Twi-lite Super and company.

Feeling no love
Three new school board members in the past few years and they show no love towards the folks who helped put them in office. The folks who put you there had high expectations for change and not the status quo. The time for action has arrived - the 'flame out' status is getting tiresome. You go to a ballgame and participate in the 'wave' now is the time for some 'wave' action as a board member.

Twi-lite Super
Twi-lite Super needs to be a resident and taxpaying member of the community in which she is employed, and the PISD should demand this take place immediately. The same goes for Assistant Twi-lite Super. Being a member of a local service club does not give you the necessary status of resident and local taxpayer. At the very least show some class and remove the D-field window decal off your automobile. I understand that many from D-field would like the decal removed as well.
The PISD board make-up was changed with the election of two new members back in the spring; however, the board still operates as if nothing changed. Bad for the taxpayers, for we had such high hopes for some new independent thinkers, but to date they have only achieved 'flame-out' status. From your business background you know taxpayer money is not being spent in the most efficient manner, but not one objection during the budget process.
Why serve if you are just going to be an attender of meetings? Anyone can complete this task.......... at least the folks at the county called the CAD budget into question.
