Tax Cuts Start April 1, Obama Says

THANK YOU MR PRESIDENT FOR THE $65...It will really come in handy now that you say I have to pay my neighbor's mortgage along with my own, do you want me to pay for his Escalade too? What about that Prada purse his wife has? And those $300 "Air Jordans that his son has? Cause I don't wanna complain, and I understand that Mr Rezko helped you get your house and you can now fly everywhere for free..gosh you seem to luv that perk but Mr President $65 A FREAKING MONTH IS NOT ENOUGH TO PAY THAT DEADBEATS MORTGAGE! ARE YOU LISTENING MR PRESIDENT?

Does anybody on this board have a TV, radio or computer? Huh? Every other news story is about local and state governments increasing taxes to cover their shortfalls in revenue. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET TO KEEP YOUR $13 A WEEK ANYWAY. WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone please explain how banks were forced to make bad loans? Fannie and Freddie were created by the Gov. but were publicly traded and privately owned!

Have you noticed about Obama - everything is about "never before" "the biggest" "the boldest" - this guy is more about competition and superiority then he is about the welfare of this country. He's an egomaniac. So far, what we have seen & heard from him is scolding, pontificating, cajoling and wine and dine the opposition. We have seen everything but leadership.

Obama and Twi-light Super would make a nice pair. Their inability to lead and manage could destroy a battleship!

Former state Rep. Fred Hill now lobbying on behalf of cities, counties
Posted By Jennifer Peebles On February 19, 2009

With 20 years’ experience in the state legislature, the Richardson Republican [2] once talked his fellow House members out of passing a property tax cap that both the governor and the famously autocratic [3] House Speaker Tom Craddick supported. He chaired the state [4] House Local Government Ways and Means Committee. The [5] Texas Municipal League [6] inducted him into its hall of fame for state legislators.
Hill may have left the legislature in early January, but he still has clout. And he’s still being paid with Texans’ tax dollars.

That’s because he’s the latest lawmaker to go through Capitol Hill’s revolving door and become a lobbyist. Hill is now representing a handful of north Texas city and town governments in Austin this year, work for which he would be paid between $395,000-$699,990 this year. Also among his clients are the [7] Dallas Area Rapid Transit system and two local government groups who collect dues from their member local governments.
In making the change, he’s joined a small army of former legislators-turned-lobbyists at the statehouse. A [8]
2005 study by the Washington-based nonprofit Center for Public Integrity found 70 former legislators lobbying then at the Texas capitol, more than in any other state.

Critics of the revolving door say voters and taxpayers are unable to tell when lawmakers stop thinking like lawmakers and start thinking like someone on the hunt for a job. And in Hill’s case – like many others who have waltzed through the revolving door – he went hunting for work from entities that had much to gain or lose from the actions on his committee: local governments.

He registered his firm, a limited liability corporation called Solutions for Local Control, with the Secretary of State’s office on Nov. 20, records show.

In most cases, lawmakers don’t start lobbying duties until their replacement is sworn in. This year, that would have been Jan. 13. But by Jan. 3, the former chairman of the House Local Government Ways and Means Committee was asking for business from local governments.

That’s OK, according to Hill — he says he formally resigned via letter to the governor on Jan. 2.
“This doesn’t pass the smell test,” said Peggy Venable, who leads the Texas branch of Americans For Prosperity, a fiscally conservative taxpayer watchdog. “When did he stop being a representative for his constituents and start being a representative for his lobbying interests?”

Hill says he’s not a lobbyist in the traditional sense. He’s signed on to work for local governments because he believes in fighting for taxpayers and for local control. Former State Representative now registered lobbyist Hill must believe that we are all CRAZY. He has never represented the taxpayers interest. He has always supported the interest of those receiving entities. He did not join up with AFP and the likes, he signed up to lobby for TML, local cities, etc. Signed up to work for local control, you bet the control to take more from mine and your pockets. Drastic difference in taxpayer and tax receiver! What a bone head statement.

Catching up

Been catching up on reading the local rag from being out of town and traveling and came across the article from the school board meeting in which one school board member questioned Twi-light Super with regards to violating a local board policy. It appears that Twi-light Super even admits to doing wrong when she violated local board policy with the employment of an attorney that was not approved by the Pittsburg ISD board. Folks, I don't know about where you work, but most employers would terminate an employee for violating a board policy. Athletes are dismissed from teams for breaking team rules and policies.

Employees are dismissed for breaking policies so that no other employee can ever break a policy and get by with a violation. It protects the employer. It appears from reading the article the PISD board has chosen to disregard the local board policy violation. This is fine and dandy! Now the next time the PISD wants to dismiss an employee for violation of a board policy the board will have no option but to let the employee stay employed. If they terminate the employee they risk a lawsuit for they let Twi-light Super violate a local board policy and they kept her on the payroll. Regardless of their feelings with the Richardson gentlemen the board has made a major mistake in allowing Twi-light Super to remain employed. At the very least a notation should be directed to her personnel file to build a case to terminate her employment with the PISD.

Now what kind of message does this send to a student? It is OK to violate a policy for there will be no punishment. Let some good lawyer get a hold of this and it want take long to clean out the $11 million plus reserve maintained by the PISD.

Many in the community are wanting to know what damaging information does Twi-light Super have on the members of the PISD board. It must be big enough that they are willing to let Twi-light Super sink the PISD ship! Some insiders at the PISD are saying Twi-light Super is destroying morale, and hiring the culls from other local ISDs. PISD board needs to wake-up before you get an "I told you so" branding.

To All My Valued Employees

This has been forwarded to me and it looks like a million others, but I just felt the need to place a copy here.

To all my valued employees,

There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country.

However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interests.

First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You've seen my big home at last years Christmas party. I'm sure; all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life.

However, what you don't see is the back story.

I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.

My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business - hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the discount store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.

So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden - the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations ... you never realize the back story and the sacrifices I've made.

Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.

Yes, business ownership has is benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.

Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:

I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.

The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy?

Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.

The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.

Here is what many of you don't understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.

When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.

So where am I going with all this? It's quite simple.

If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.

Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.

So, if you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about ...

Signed,
Your boss

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom

This comes to me from one of the local church periodicals that was handed to me at one of the local coffee shop round tables. I find it most appropriate in this day of financial uncertainty.

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 - 2005

I favor God, country and apple pie – make that pecan pie – I’m a Texan, after all. However, I just can't seem to make sense out of all the financial stimulus doublespeak these days. I am really beginning to wonder if we don't have a bunch of inexperienced PhD's conducting experiments at the expense of the American financial community. For some reason this all seems to be leading down the red brick road of socialism.

I was really bothered by a statement President Obama made in his first live news conference and it went something like this: "only the government can pull us out." It is evident the government knows not what it is doing. If the overall goal is the equalization of wealth then we are headed down that red brick road. I don't get warm and fuzzy when I hear things like "limit the amount of pay", "support the union check-off option for it will be good", and "the stimulus will solve all our problems." Reward should be based upon hard work and persistence. If I work hard then why would I want to share with someone who fails to have the desire to work? Don't get me wrong for I am all for the equal thing, but only to the extent of having an equal opportunity. If I desire to equalize and divide my wealth I will contact President Obama and hopefully we can share some equal time together discussing the freedom I had in making that decision.

That pecan pie is waiting.............................................. better get a piece before I have to equalize it!

HOME SCHOOLING GROWS RAPIDLY

The number of students taught at home since 1999 has increased by 74%. Students schooled at home seem to 15% - 30% higher scores on academic achievement exams versus their peers in public schools.

FROM THE LAND OF GOVERNMENT STUPIDLY WE HAVE:
EPA CONSIDERING $175 TAX PER COW TO CURB GREENHOUSE GASES

According to scientists an average dairy cow passes 50 - 100 gallons of gasses into the air daily. The $175 would apply to dairy cows with $80 a head for beef cows. The hogs are not left out of the gas problem for they will be assessed $20 each. I would be willing to bet that a government funded study came to this greenhouse gas problem. And some folks just don't understand why we have an economic financial problem............

In 55 BC Cicero said

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance given to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

Kind of makes you wonder about all the bailout and stimulus talk being tossed around in Washington, D.C. Guess the Indian had it right! Drink coffee, shoot bull, and leave mess for others.

Anyone remember what happened to the Roman Empire?
